Command Welcome:

Objective of this lesson is to introduce the 502 Force Support Group Command team and set expectations for civilian supervisors within the FSG and identify the objectives of the LEAD workshop.

5 Foundational Voices:

1 Hour 

5 Foundational Voices The 5 Voices lesson will help supervisors identify their natural tendencies and how their individual personalities interact with others within teams. Understanding our natural tendencies and those of our team members will improve team communication and effectiveness.  

In preparation of the first day of the course, each student must complete the 5 Voices Assessment by clicking the GiANT button below prior to the first day.  You must create an account and click start exploring.  In the middle of the page you will see "The Five Voices" and Take the Assessment.  Complete the 80 question assessment.  Once this is complete, you will receive your foundational voice results.  If you click "voice pair insights" you'll be able to see your full voice ranking results.  Once complete your foundational voice will populate in the middle of the page. You can review an overview of your voice, your weapon system, etc. If you select the “view all” button to the right of your voice you will be taken to videos that explore/elaborate on the meaning of  your foundational voice.  Your results will be used during the course. 

Leadership Styles:

This lesson will cover various types of leadership styles, from passive leadership to active leadership. During this lesson, supervisors will learn about the strengths/weaknesses of these styles. Additionally, supervisors will learn how to effectively utilize these different styles to motivate team members and increase engagement.

Transitioning from peer to Supervisor :

50 Min 

Transitioning from a hands-on position to a supervisory position can be difficult and requires individuals to make a major change in how they operate at work. This lesson will cover lessons learned, advice, and common mistakes made to ease your transition in becoming an effective supervisor.

Team Building & Motivation:

50 Min

Building effective and cohesive teams is a key element of being a supervisor. This lesson is designed to help new supervisors when building teams through understanding the different stages of team development and using individual motivations to build a cohesive team working towards its objectives.

Generational Perspectives:

50 Min 

As Bob Dylan said "The times they are a changing". This is evident in a workforce that now consists of 4 different generations. This lesson will cover how to interact and manage a workforce consisting of multiple-generations. Additionally, this topic will provide historical context that helps supervisors understand how different generations formed their general characteristics and what's in store for the future workforce.

Workforce Planning:

This brief will cover how the workforce planning office can assist supervisors in identify necessary skills and positions needed to accomplish current, future, and emerging requirements. This brief will also inform supervisors on how they can go about addressing updated requirements.

DPMAP/MyBiz:

50 Min

This topic will cover the DoD Performance Management & Appraisal Program. This lesson will teach supervisors how to use this system and how to manage performance of employees and completing appraisals.

EMR & Labor Relations:

30 Min 

In this lesson, supervisors will learn who the EMR and LMR contacts are and how these offices can help management when it comes to performance and disciplinary issues with employees. Additionally, this will cover LMR's role in changes of conditions of employments and how they help management. These offices also help supervisors with grievances, appeals, work hours, leave, and incentive awards.

Employee Recognition:

30 Min

This lesson will familiarize supervisors with the employee recognition program and how to submit outstanding employees for recognition, such as time-off, quarterly, and monetary awards. Additionally, this brief will cover general information on the program guidance.

SAPR:

30 Min 

This lesson will cover the Sexual Assault Prevention and Response program. During this briefs supervisors will learned about the SAPR policies and reporting procedures. Additionally, supervisors will learn the SAPR resources available to them and their teams and how to contact/utilize these resources.

EEO:

30 Min

During this brief, supervisors will learn who their local EO reps and offices are, as well DoD EO policies against unlawful discrimination. This brief will also provide supervisors information on the complaint process for potential EO violations.

EAP:

30 Min 

This brief will cover EAP, to include the various ways and resources available to supervisors and their employees, such as coaching, counseling, online programs, work-life services, and more. The EAP is a resource to help employees overcome potential challenges, both professionally and personally. During this lesson, supervisors will also learn who how to utilize the program and who the local EAP contacts are.

Civilian Development:

30 Min

This brief will goes over advice and lessons learned when it comes to developing others. It will also inform supervisors of key items used in the development of others, such as short and long-term goals, individual development plans, professional development opportunities and formalized trainings courses.

Mentor Panel:

45 Min 

This powerful and provocative session will bring together three inspiring civilian leaders from across Joint Base San Antonio to share their perspectives and examine the impact that new leaders and supervisors can have on their organizations – and the impact that leadership roles can have on the people who hold them. We’ll also have open and frank conversations around topics such as work/life balance, flexibility, resilience, burnout, fears, strengths, failures, and more.
